One Life

One Life tells the true story of Nicholas Winton, a British stockbroker who, on the eve of the Second World War, becomes involved in efforts to get Jewish children out of Czechoslovakia. After learning about the conditions in refugee camps there, he travels to Prague and, with help from his mother and a relief organisation on the ground, works against the approaching Nazi takeover to arrange transport for hundreds of children. Decades later, the older Winton is invited onto a television programme, where the scale of what he and his collaborators achieved becomes public.

James Hawes directed the film, his third feature after Pulse and The Challenger Disaster, from a screenplay by Lucinda Coxon and Nick Drake. Anthony Hopkins plays the older Winton, with Johnny Flynn as his younger self; Lena Olin, Romola Garai, Alex Sharp and Jonathan Pryce are among the cast. The production was a British, American and Australian effort from Lipsync Productions, BBC Film, FilmNation Entertainment and See-Saw Films, and it took 57 million dollars worldwide.

On IMDb, viewers rate One Life 7.5 out of 10 from 40,000 votes, while on TMDB it holds 7.8 from a much smaller base of 995 votes. The film critics' rating stands at 7.3 from 150 reviews, putting professional and audience assessments fairly close together.
