Okiku and the World

Set in Edo-period Japan, this comedy drama follows two dishonest vagrants who earn a living by collecting waste from tenement toilets to sell as fertilizer to farmers. Their lives change when they meet Okiku, the only daughter of a disgraced samurai, leading to a romantic relationship that develops amidst their unconventional profession.

Junji Sakamoto wrote and directed the film, which is the second project in a list of three including KT and Climbing for Life. The movie features Haru Kuroki in the role of Okiku and Kanichiro Sato as Chuji. It was produced by Free Stone Productions, FANTASIA, and YOIHI PROJECT.

The film has been received positively by viewers, though it has a smaller number of ratings on some platforms. It holds a score of 6.7/10 on IMDb based on 253 votes and a higher rating of 7.5/10 on TMDB from 17 votes.
