Godzilla 2000: Millennium

Godzilla 2000: Millennium follows an independent research group, the Godzilla Prediction Network, led by scientist Yuji Shinoda, who tracks the monster after it comes ashore at Nemuro. A science journalist, Yuki Ichinose, joins the effort while government and military figures, including Mitsuo Katagiri, pursue their own approach to the creature. Their work is complicated by a huge meteorite found in Ibaraki Prefecture, a rock that begins to levitate and turns out to hold something unexpected, setting up a confrontation between Godzilla and a new monster.

The film is directed by Takao Okawara, his fourth Godzilla entry after Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992), Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993) and Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995). Hiroshi Kashiwabara and Wataru Mimura wrote the screenplay, and Shogo Tomiyama produced. Takehiro Murata plays Shinoda, with Hiroshi Abe as Katagiri, Naomi Nishida as Ichinose, Mayu Suzuki as Io Shinoda and Takeo Nakahara as General Takada.

Released in Japan in December 1999 and running 107 minutes, the film was made for about 13 million dollars and took a similar amount worldwide, so it did not recoup its cost at the box office. On IMDb it holds 6 out of 10 from around 10,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.9 out of 10 from roughly 321 votes. A critics' rating of 5.8 out of 10 from 68 reviews places it below the audience scores.
