Bulletproof

Bulletproof is a 1996 action comedy about an undercover police officer, Jack Carter, who has spent months posing as a criminal named Rock Keats alongside a small-time thief and car crook, Archie Moses. The friendship the two men build is genuine, but Carter's job is to help bring down the drug lord Frank Colton, and the operation collapses when Moses discovers who his partner really is. A shooting leaves Carter wounded and Moses on the run. When Moses is finally caught, he agrees to testify against Colton only if Carter personally escorts him to the hearing, which forces the former friends back together on a journey across California while Colton's people try to stop them.

Ernest R. Dickerson directed the film, his fourth feature after Juice, Surviving the Game and Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight. Lewis Colick and Joe Gayton wrote the screenplay, and Robert Simonds produced it for Universal Pictures. Damon Wayans plays Carter and Adam Sandler plays Moses, with James Caan as Colton, Jeep Swenson as Bledsoe, James Farentino as Capt. Jensen and Kristen Wilson as Traci. The production had a budget of about 25 million dollars and took in roughly 23 million worldwide, so it did not recover its costs in cinemas. On IMDb it holds a rating of 3.7 out of 10 from 38 reviews, while on TMDB it sits at 5.8 out of 10 from 681 votes, a gap that suggests audiences were somewhat more tolerant of it than critics were.
