Milton Robinson lives a quiet life in a small western Pennsylvania town, tending his garden and attending community meetings where his neighbors rarely take his suggestions seriously. One night a flying saucer crashes in his backyard, and Milton discovers a frightened alien inside. Rather than turning the visitor over to anyone, he keeps it hidden, forming a cautious bond with the creature. That secret grows harder to keep once two of his neighbors, Sandy and Joyce, notice what he is hiding and take an interest of their own. When the government begins searching for the alien, Milton and the women around him must decide how far they will go to protect the visitor.
