Short description

The Regis School is an exclusive American boarding school for wealthy students who have already been expelled from other institutions. When the federal authorities capture a Colombian drug lord and put him on trial, his son Luis Cali leads a group of terrorists into the school and seizes the students as hostages, demanding his father's release. A handful of the pupils, among them the repeatedly expelled Billy Tepper and his friend Joey Trotta, the son of a New York mob boss, refuse to submit and organize resistance against the intruders.

Daniel Petrie Jr. directed the film, his first feature behind the camera, from a screenplay he wrote with David Koepp. Sean Astin plays Billy and Wil Wheaton plays Joey, with Keith Coogan, Andrew Divoff as Cali, R. Lee Ermey and Mason Adams among the credited cast of 58. The production, made by TriStar Pictures and Island World, cost about 10 million dollars and returned roughly 15 million worldwide.

Released in April 1991, the film runs 112 minutes. Audiences rate it moderately, with 6.6 out of 10 on IMDb from around 27,000 votes and 6.5 out of 10 on TMDB from just under 400 votes, while its critics' score stands at 4.6 out of 10 from 17 reviews, noticeably below the audience figures. Petrie went on to direct In the Army Now in 1994.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Derek, played by Sean Faris, is nicknamed “Yogurt” in the film. Faris was actually given this nickname by the other actors. It is said that when the actors were being driven to the set, the car hit a bump, and Faris, who was eating yogurt at that moment, got covered in it. The other actors found this so amusing that they called him Yogurt until the end of filming.
