Samsara is a drama and fantasy film that explores the Buddhist concept of reincarnation. The story begins in Laos, where a youth reads the Tibetan Book of the Dead to a dying woman to guide her spirit through the afterlife. Following her death, the narrative follows the soul on a sensory journey through the bardo until it is reborn into a new body in Zanzibar, Tanzania, among a community of fishermen and seaweed farmers.
The film was directed by Lois Patiño, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Garbiñe Ortega. This was the first of two listed films in Patiño's career, preceding the 2025 production Ariel. The cast includes Amid Keomany, Toumor Xiong, Simone Milavanh, Mariam Vuaa Mtego, and Juwairiya Idrisa Uwesu. Produced in Spain by companies including Señor y Señora, Filmin, and the Jeonju Cinema Project, the movie has a runtime of 117 minutes. It currently holds a rating of 6.8/10 on TMDB based on 11 votes.
