Eight years after his wife Margot was murdered, pediatrician Alexandre Beck remains unable to move on. He buries himself in his work, and a friendship with Helene Perkins keeps him from withdrawing completely. Then he begins receiving anonymous emails containing webcam images of a woman who looks like Margot. Around the same time, two more bodies are found near the spot where Margot's was discovered, and police reopen the case, turning suspicion on Alexandre. Convinced something was missed the first time, he starts investigating on his own while trying to determine whether his wife could still be alive.
The film is Guillaume Canet's first turn as director, and he wrote the screenplay with Philippe Lefebvre. It is a French production, made for about 12 million dollars, and it took roughly 33 million worldwide. François Cluzet plays Alexandre, with Marie-Josée Croze as Margot, Kristin Scott Thomas as Helene, and André Dussollier, François Berléand and Nathalie Baye in supporting roles; 62 cast members are credited.
On IMDb it holds 7.5 out of 10 from about 61,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 7.2 from more than 1,500. A critics' rating of 7.7 from 118 reviews places it slightly above those audience scores. Canet went on to direct Little White Lies, Blood Ties, Rock'n Roll, Little White Lies 2, Asterix & Obelix: The Middle Kingdom and Karma.
