After Hours

After Hours follows Paul Hackett, a word processor in uptown Manhattan whose dull daily routine pushes him to arrange a late-night meeting downtown with a woman he has just met. What begins as a simple date turns into a long, chaotic night in a part of the city that seems to work by its own rules. Separated from everything familiar, Paul finds himself stranded among strangers and drawn into a series of increasingly strange encounters as he tries to make his way home.

Martin Scorsese directed the film, the eleventh of the thirty-eight features listed for him, arriving between The King of Comedy and The Color of Money. Joseph Minion wrote the screenplay, and Robert F. Colesberry, Griffin Dunne and Amy Robinson produced. Dunne plays Paul, with Rosanna Arquette as Marcy, Verna Bloom as June, Tommy Chong as Pepe, Linda Fiorentino as Kiki and Teri Garr as Julie, among thirty-seven credited cast members and fifty-five credited crew.

Made for about five million dollars and released in September 1985, the film took roughly eleven million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 7.6 out of 10 from around 97,000 votes, and on TMDB 7.5 out of 10 from a much smaller base. A critics' rating of 7.9 out of 10 from seventy reviews places it slightly above both audience scores.
