Intacto centres on people who can take luck from others through physical contact, and on the gambling underworld that has grown up around this ability. Federico, who lost his own gift after a confrontation with his former employer, recruits Tomás, a young thief who walked away from a plane crash as its only survivor. Together they travel toward a casino in a volcanic desert owned by Samuel, a Holocaust survivor whose luck has never failed him. A police officer, Sara, the sole survivor of the car crash that killed her family, pursues the pair as they take part in a series of wagers in which the stakes are life itself.
The film is the feature debut of Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who wrote the screenplay with Andrés M. Koppel. It came before 28 Weeks Later, Intruders and Damsel in his directing career. Leonardo Sbaraglia plays Tomás and Eusebio Poncela plays Federico, with Mónica López as Sara and Max von Sydow as Samuel. The cast also includes Antonio Dechent and Guillermo Toledo. Shot in Spain and released in 2001, it runs 108 minutes and mixes action, drama and thriller elements with science fiction.
On IMDb it holds 6.8 from more than thirteen thousand votes, and on TMDB 6.6 from a much smaller number of votes. A critics' rating of 6.5 from seventy-one reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting a reasonably well received but not widely seen title. Its worldwide box office of around two million dollars points to a limited theatrical reach.
