Babygirl

Babygirl centres on Romy, the founder and chief executive of a company whose stock market debut is going well. She is married to Jacob, a respected theatre director, and they are raising two daughters in New York. Into her workplace comes Samuel, a considerably younger intern who refuses to follow the rules and directly challenges her authority. The two begin a secret sexual relationship that moves beyond the office, pulling Romy away from the control she has built her professional and family life around.

Halina Reijn wrote and directed the film, her third feature after Instinct (2019) and Bodies Bodies Bodies (2022), and she also produced it with David Hinojosa and Julia Oh. Nicole Kidman plays Romy, Harris Dickinson plays Samuel and Antonio Banderas plays Jacob, with Esther-Rose McGregor, Sophie Wilde and Vaughan Reilly among the credited cast of twenty-five.

Released at the end of 2024, the film is a romance-thriller made across the Netherlands, the United States and the Netherlands Antilles, with A24, 2AM and Man Up Film behind it. Made for about 20 million dollars, it took roughly 65 million worldwide, a clear return on its production cost. Audience response has been mixed, with 5.8/10 on IMDb from around 80,000 votes and 5.7/10 on TMDB from a smaller pool of about 1,300. Critics, by contrast, were more favourable, giving it 7/10 across 276 reviews.
