Short description

Hoodwinked! retells the story of Little Red Riding Hood as a police investigation. When officers respond to a disturbance at Granny's cottage, they find Red, the Wolf and the Woodsman all at the scene, with Granny tied up inside a closet. Everyone present is taken in for questioning. A detective arrives to look into the case more carefully, and each suspect gets to give their own account of what happened. As the differing versions come together, a clearer picture of the events emerges, pointing toward a figure behind the crimes.

The animated comedy was directed by Cory Edwards, who wrote the screenplay with Todd Edwards and Tony Leech. It was the first of two films Cory Edwards has directed to date, followed by Fearless in 2020. The voice cast includes Anne Hathaway as Red, Glenn Close as Granny, Patrick Warburton as the Wolf, Jim Belushi as the Woodsman, David Ogden Stiers as the detective and Xzibit as Chief Grizzly, among 27 credited performers.

Made on a budget of 8 million dollars, the film took about 110 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.5 out of 10 from 71,000 votes, while on TMDB it has 6.3 from just under 2,000 votes. A critics' rating of 5.6 from 125 reviews places it somewhat below the audience scores.

What's left behind the scenes

  • During the making of the film, producer Sue Bea Montgomery showed the children sketches of future shots and ideas, carefully observing their reactions. Initially, the Goat was going to be removed from the plot altogether, but they decided to keep him because the children liked him.
