Marcus Graham is a marketing executive at a New York advertising firm who beds women at will and moves on without a backward glance. After a corporate merger, he discovers his new boss is Jacqueline, an elegant and aloof woman who treats him exactly the way he has always treated others. The reversal unsettles him badly, and his performance at work slides. Meanwhile Angela, an assistant, offers a different kind of attention, and the balance of pursuit shifts among the three of them.
Boomerang is a 1992 American romantic comedy directed by Reginald Hudlin. It followed his debut House Party (1990) and stands second in the ten features he has directed. The screenplay is by David Sheffield and Barry W. Blaustein, and the producers are Brian Grazer and Warrington Hudlin. Eddie Murphy stars as Marcus, with Robin Givens as Jacqueline, Halle Berry as Angela, David Alan Grier as Gerard, Martin Lawrence as Tyler and Grace Jones as Strangé. The production, from Paramount, Imagine Entertainment and Eddie Murphy Productions, cost about 40 million dollars and took roughly 131 million dollars worldwide.
Audience scores are modest and close to each other: on IMDb the film rates 5.6 from over thirty thousand votes, and on TMDB 5.7 from a few hundred. A critics' rating of 5.3 from forty-two reviews sits a little below both, so reviewers were somewhat less enthusiastic than audiences, though neither group rated it highly.
