Earl Bassett, who once helped defend a small desert town against giant underground worms, has seen his fame fade since that encounter. He accepts an offer from a Mexican oil company whose fields have been overrun by the same kind of creatures, which have started attacking workers. Earl assembles a team that includes a young recruit, a geologist and his old associate Burt Gummer, and they set out to hunt the worms. What they find is more dangerous than expected, as the creatures have developed new abilities.
Tremors 2: Aftershocks is a 1996 American action, comedy, horror and science fiction film directed by S.S. Wilson, who wrote the screenplay with Brent Maddock. It was Wilson's first film as director; he later directed Tremors 4: The Legend Begins (2004). Fred Ward returns as Earl Bassett, with Helen Shaver as Kate 'White' Reilly, Chris Gartin as Grady Hoover and Michael Gross as Burt Gummer. Christopher DeFaria and Nancy Roberts produced for Stampede Entertainment, with 48 crew members credited.
Made for about 4 million dollars, the film is a modestly scaled sequel rather than a large studio production. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6 out of 10 from roughly 35,000 votes, while on TMDB it rates 6.4 out of 10 from 1,107 votes. A critics' rating of 5 out of 10 from 11 reviews places it close to the audience scores, suggesting a similar reception on both sides.
