Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen

Lola is a teenager who dreams of an acting career in New York City, but her plans are upended when her family moves to Dellwood, New Jersey. At her new school she quickly finds friends, yet she also attracts the hostility of Carla, the girl who reigns as the most popular student. Both set their sights on the lead role in the school production of Pygmalion, and their rivalry turns into an ongoing contest for the spotlight, with the winner taking the star part and the status that comes with it.

Sara Sugarman directed the film, her third feature, from a screenplay by Gail Parent. Lindsay Lohan plays Lola, with Adam Garcia as Stu, Glenne Headly as Karen, Alison Pill as Ella, Eli Marienthal as Sam and Carol Kane as Miss Baggoli. Walt Disney Pictures produced the comedy, which runs ninety minutes and was made for about fifteen million dollars.

Released in 2004, the film took in roughly thirty-three million dollars worldwide, more than twice its budget. On IMDb it holds a rating of 4.8 from about thirty-three thousand votes, while on TMDB it sits at 5.7 from a much smaller pool of under a thousand. A critics' rating of 4 out of 10, drawn from ninety-three reviews, places it below even the modest audience scores.
