Waitress: The Musical

Waitress: The Musical centers on Jenna Hunterson, a waitress in a small town whose talent for baking pies offers her a possible route out of a difficult marriage. Her hopes of escaping her circumstances shape the story as she deals with the people around her and considers what a different life might look like.

The film is a recorded stage production, directed by Brett Sullivan, whose work in this area includes Love Never Dies (2012) and Newsies (2017), with Waitress: The Musical arriving in 2023 between them and later stage-capture projects. Jessie Nelson wrote the screenplay and produced alongside Michael Roiff and Sara Bareilles. The cast is led by Bareilles as Jenna, with Charity Angél Dawson as Becky, Caitlin Houlahan as Dawn Louise Pinkett, Drew Gehling as Dr. Jim Pomatter, Dakin Matthews as Joe and Eric Anderson as Cal.

Released in December 2023 and running 144 minutes, the film is a co-production between the United Kingdom and the United States. On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.8 from around 3,200 votes, while on TMDB its rating stands at 7.3 from a much smaller base of 41 votes. The larger IMDb sample and the closer audience figures on both platforms indicate a generally favourable response from viewers.
