The Care Bears Movie

The Care Bears live in a realm above the clouds, and their purpose is to protect good feelings and help children. When a young magician's apprentice named Nicholas comes under the influence of an evil spirit tied to a spell book, that mission is put to the test. Two children, Kim and Jason, who have recently moved to a new town, become involved in the struggle, and the Care Bears and their Cousins join forces with them to stop the spirit from turning love and friendship into hatred and greed.

The 1985 animated film was directed by Arna Selznick from a screenplay by Peter Sauder, and produced by Michael Hirsh, Patrick Loubert and Clive A. Smith. Its voice cast includes Mickey Rooney as Mr. Cherrywood, Jackie Burroughs as the Spirit, Georgia Engel as Love-A-Lot-Bear, Sunny Besen Thrasher as Jason, Eva Almos as Friend Bear and Swift Heart Rabbit, and Patricia Black as Funshine Bear and Share Bear. Made on a budget of about 2 million dollars, it went on to take roughly 23 million dollars worldwide, a strong return for an independently produced animated feature of its time.

Audience reception has been moderate: it holds a 5.6 rating on IMDb from around 6,300 votes and a 6.3 on TMDB from a much smaller base of 164 votes.
