Short description

Ben Gottlieb is a synagogue cantor whose faith and voice have faltered after the death of his wife. His days pass in preparing children for their bar mitzvahs, with his mother arranging dates he has little interest in. Then Carla Kessler, the music teacher from his grade school years, comes back into his life, this time as an adult preparing for her Bat Mitzvah. The two form an unexpected bond.

The film is directed by Nathan Silver, who wrote the screenplay with C. Mason Wells. It followed Thirst Street (2017) in Silver's filmography and precedes Sounds From Home (2026). Jason Schwartzman plays Ben and Carol Kane plays Carla; the cast also includes Dolly de Leon, Caroline Aaron, Robert Smigel and Madeline Weinstein, with 23 credited performers and 55 credited crew members.

Released in August 2024, the film runs 111 minutes. It is an American production from Washington Square Films, Ley Line Entertainment and Fusion Entertainment, and it took about 2 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.2 out of 10 from roughly 3,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 5.6 out of 10 from a much smaller group of 58 votes.
