No Chains, No Masters

Set in 1759 on the island of Mauritius, this historical drama focuses on the struggle against French colonial rule. Massamba and his teenage daughter, Mati, are enslaved on a sugar cane plantation owned by Eugène Larcenet. While Massamba has become disillusioned, Mati refuses to accept her situation and escapes into the wilderness in search of freedom. When Larcenet hires a relentless slave hunter named Madame La Victoire to track her down, Massamba is forced to flee as well to protect his daughter from brutal consequences. The two must navigate the jungle while being hunted by La Victoire and her sons.
