- The creators of the film and the creators of the dystopian tragicomedy 'The Truman Show' (Peter Weir, 1998) were aware of the existence of parallel and quite similar projects. The creators of 'Ed from TV' did not pay much attention to the presence of a competitor. They did not believe that 'The Truman Show' would be successful, as the public was unlikely to want to see Jim Carrey, known for his comedic roles, in such a film. Contrary to their expectations, 'The Truman Show' performed well at the box office, unlike 'Ed from TV'.
