Hatari!

Hatari! is an adventure comedy set in East Africa, where a crew of hunters captures wild animals alive rather than killing them, supplying zoos and animal parks around the world with wildlife. Sean Mercer leads the operation, working the savannah with a team of experienced hands. The work is dangerous, so when Anna Maria D'Allesandro, an Italian photographer, arrives on the scene and asks to join a safari, Sean turns her down. He finds it hard to keep refusing her, and her presence unsettles the group's routine.

The 1962 film was directed by Howard Hawks, the seventeenth of the nineteen features he made, following Rio Bravo and preceding El Dorado. Leigh Brackett wrote the screenplay, and Hawks produced with Paul Helmick. John Wayne plays Sean, with Hardy Krüger, Elsa Martinelli, Red Buttons, Gérard Blain and Bruce Cabot among the cast.

At 157 minutes, the film runs long for its genre. On IMDb it holds a 7.1 rating from 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6.8 from 278 votes. A critics' rating of 6.9 from 26 reviews places it close to the audience scores, indicating a generally favorable but not rapturous reception across both groups.
