Old Righteous Blues

Old Righteous Blues is a South African music drama centered on a young man's effort to restore his town's Christmas choir band to its previous success. To achieve this goal and bring a divided community together, he must overcome personal limitations and address unresolved issues from his past.

The film was directed by Muneera Sallies and written by Carole Shore, who also served as a producer alongside Cati Weinek and Dumi Gumbi. The movie was produced by several organizations, including The Ergo Company, kykNET, The National Film and Video Foundation of SA, and The Department of Trade and Industry of South Africa. The cast features Ayden Croy as Hantjie, Joshwin Dyson as Elvin, and Megan Saayman as Risi, with Simon Bruinders playing Oom Lanie and the role of Mr. Cupoido shared by Kevin Saunders and Kevin Smith. A total of 21 credited actors appear in the 99-minute production, which was released on June 8, 2024.
