Superman IV: The Quest for Peace

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace follows the Man of Steel as he takes on the nuclear arms race. After a young boy writes to him asking for help, Superman addresses the United Nations and pledges to remove every nuclear weapon from the world, a decision that puts him at odds with the governments pursuing the arms buildup. Lex Luthor, newly escaped from prison, seizes the opportunity to strike back. Using a strand of Superman's hair, he creates a powerful adversary to destroy his old enemy, setting up a confrontation that moves from Earth into space.

Christopher Reeve returns as Clark Kent and Superman, with Margot Kidder as Lois Lane, Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, Mariel Hemingway as Lacy Warfield, Jackie Cooper as Perry White and Marc McClure as Jimmy Olsen. Sidney J. Furie directed from a screenplay by Lawrence Konner and Mark Rosenthal, with Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus producing. Made for a budget of 17 million USD, it was the eighth of thirteen films Furie directed in chronological order, following Iron Eagle and preceding Iron Eagle II.

The film earned about 37 million USD worldwide. Reception was negative across the board: the critics' rating stands at 3 out of 10 from 52 reviews, while audiences gave it 3.7 out of 10 on IMDb from 51,721 votes and 4.6 out of 10 on TMDB from 1,457 votes, a slightly more favourable but still poor result.
