C.R.A.Z.Y. follows Zachary Beaulieu, the fourth of five sons born into a French Canadian family in Quebec. Born on Christmas Day in 1960, Zach grows up over two decades within a household headed by a loving mother and a blunt, tradition-minded father. As he moves through childhood and adolescence in the 1960s and 1970s, Zach discovers he is different from his brothers and tries to suppress his true nature to keep his father's affection, setting up a conflict between who he is and the values his father expects him to share.

The film is directed by Jean-Marc Vallée, who wrote the screenplay with François Boulay and made the film as the second of the seven features listed for him, following Loser Love and preceding The Young Victoria. Pierre Even produced. Marc-André Grondin plays Zachary, with Danielle Proulx as his mother Laurianne, Michel Côté as his father Gervais, and Pierre-Luc Brillant, Alex Gravel and Maxime Tremblay as his brothers. The credited cast runs to 39 performers.

Released in 2005, the film runs 126 minutes and blends comedy with drama. Its worldwide box office came to about 4 million USD.
