Sicilian Letters

Set in Sicily during the early 2000s, this crime drama is loosely based on real events surrounding the long evasion of Mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro. The story follows Catello, a former politician who has lost everything after serving time in prison for his ties to the mafia. When Italian secret services recruit him to help locate the elusive Matteo, who is also his godson, Catello sees an opportunity to regain his status. He begins a risky and deceptive correspondence with the fugitive, attempting to manipulate the criminal's emotional vulnerabilities through letters to uncover his hiding place.

The film was co-directed by Fabio Grassadonia and Antonio Piazza, who previously collaborated on the 2013 film Salvo. They also wrote the screenplay for this production, which was produced by RAI Cinema, Indigo Film, and Les Films du Losange. The movie stars Toni Servillo as Catello Palumbo and Elio Germano as Matteo, with a supporting cast that includes Daniela Marra, Barbora Bobuľová, Giuseppe Tantillo, and Fausto Russo Alesi. Audience reception has been moderate, with the film receiving a 6/10 rating from 1,200 votes on IMDb and a 6.1/10 rating from 133 votes on TMDB.
