Short description

Tropical Malady is a Thai drama that unfolds in two distinct parts. In the first, a young soldier named Keng and a country boy named Tong grow close in rural Thailand, their relationship developing through everyday moments and time spent with Tong's family. The second part shifts into the surrounding jungle, where a wild animal has been attacking local cattle and a legend holds that a man can take the form of a beast. Keng ventures alone into the forest, where myth and reality begin to merge.

The film was written and directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul and released in 2004, standing as the first title in chronological order among the director's listed features. Banlop Lomnoi plays Keng and Sakda Kaewbuadee plays Tong. It was produced by Charles de Meaux with backing from companies in Thailand, France, Germany and Italy, and runs 118 minutes.

On IMDb it holds a rating of 7.1/10 from around 6,800 votes, while on TMDB it has a rating of 6.7/10 from 141 votes. A film critics' rating stands at 7.7/10 from 51 reviews, notably higher than the audience scores.
