The Man with Two Brains

Michael Hfuhruhurr is a celebrated neurosurgeon who has invented his own method for operating on the brain. While driving, he accidentally strikes a woman named Dolores Benedict and saves her life through surgery. The two marry soon after, but Dolores proves to be less interested in her husband than in his wealth, and the marriage quickly sours. During a trip to Austria, Hfuhruhurr encounters Dr. Alfred Necessiter, a colleague whose laboratory holds a preserved female brain capable of speech. The surgeon falls in love with it, and the situation grows more complicated from there.

Carl Reiner directed the film, his fourth, following Oh, God!, The Jerk and Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid. Reiner also wrote the screenplay with Steve Martin and George Gipe, and Martin stars as Hfuhruhurr. Kathleen Turner plays Dolores, David Warner plays Dr. Necessiter, and the credited cast runs to 34 performers. It was produced by Warner Bros. Pictures and the Aspen Film Society on a budget of 10 million dollars.

The film is a comedy with romance and science-fiction elements, released in June 1983 and running 93 minutes. Its worldwide box office matched its production budget.
