Epic

Epic follows Mary Katherine, a teenager who returns to live with her father, Professor Bomba, a scientist obsessed with proving that a tiny civilization lives hidden in the forest. She dismisses his theories until she is magically shrunk and drawn into that secret world, where the Leafmen protect the woodland and the Boggans seek to destroy it. Caught between the two sides, she joins a mismatched band of inhabitants to defend their realm, whose fate is tied to the human world as well. Amanda Seyfried voices Mary Katherine, with Jason Sudeikis as Bomba, Colin Farrell as the Leafman warrior Ronin, Josh Hutcherson as Nod, and Christoph Waltz as the Boggan leader Mandrake.

The film was directed by Chris Wedge, his third feature after Ice Age and Robots and before Monster Trucks, and written by James V. Hart, Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember. It was produced by Blue Sky Studios with 20th Century Fox, on a budget of about 100 million dollars, and it took roughly 268 million dollars worldwide, a solid return. It carries a 6.6 rating on IMDb from about 114,000 votes and the same 6.6 on TMDB from around 3,000 votes, while a critics' score of 5.9 from 124 reviews places reviewers slightly below general audiences.
