John Cranko

The film follows the life of John Cranko, a talented choreographer who leaves London for Stuttgart in 1960. After facing professional bans and persecution in England due to his homosexuality, he finds a more accepting environment in the Swabian province. The story depicts his rapid ascent from a guest choreographer to the director of the ballet, during which he navigates personal crises and romantic affairs. His dedication to perfection and his relationship with his company eventually transform him into a world-renowned artistic sensation.

Directed and written by Joachim Lang, this historical drama is the second of two films he released in 2024, following Goebbels and the Führer. The production was handled by SWR and Zeitsprung Pictures in Germany. The movie stars Sam Riley in the title role, supported by a cast that includes Marcus Calvin, Stefan Weinert, Sascha Göpel, Thomas Meinhardt, and Lucas Gregorowicz. A total of 53 credited actors and 100 crew members contributed to the 128-minute production.
