Pecker

Pecker is a young man in Baltimore who works at a sandwich shop and photographs everything around him: his family, his friends, his neighbourhood, his daily life. His pictures are casual and uneven, but a New York gallery owner passing through the city notices them and offers him a show. The exhibition makes him a sudden art-world sensation, and the attention brings offers, obligations and friction, including embarrassment for the relatives and neighbours whose lives he has put on display. Pecker has to weigh the pull of a bigger career against the world he comes from.

John Waters wrote and directed the film, the ninth of the eleven features he has made, arriving after Serial Mom and before Cecil B. Demented. Edward Furlong plays Pecker, with Christina Ricci as Shelley, and Bess Armstrong, Mark Joy, Mary Kay Place and Martha Plimpton among the cast; sixty-five performers are credited in all.

Made for about 6 million dollars, the film returned roughly 2 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds 6.3 out of 10 from around 16,000 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from about 215 votes. A critics' rating of 5.9 from 46 reviews places it below both audience figures, though the three scores sit within a similar range.
