Tetro

Seventeen-year-old Bennie travels from the United States to Buenos Aires in search of the older brother who left the family a decade earlier and has been missing since. He finds Angelo, now calling himself Tetro, a writer who abandoned a promising career and lives in self-imposed exile, distant and disillusioned rather than the admired figure Bennie remembers. The two brothers grew up in an Italian immigrant family that moved to New York to follow their father Carlo, a celebrated and domineering orchestra conductor. Bennie's arrival stirs up old wounds, and when he discovers an unfinished autobiographical play his brother has been writing, the family's buried conflicts and secrets come back to the surface, reopening the rift between them. Maribel Verdú plays Miranda, with Silvia Pérez and Rodrigo de la Serna in supporting roles.

Francis Ford Coppola directed and co-wrote the film with Mauricio Kartun, and produced it with Valerio De Paolis. It was the twenty-third of the twenty-six films he has directed, following Youth Without Youth in 2007 and preceding Twixt in 2011. Shot as a drama across Argentina, Spain, Italy and the United States, it stars Vincent Gallo as Tetro, Alden Ehrenreich as Bennie and Klaus Maria Brandauer as Carlo, with twenty-four credited cast members and a crew of 177.

Made on a budget of about 5 million dollars, the film took roughly 3 million dollars worldwide, less than its cost. Audiences rate it 6.8 out of 10 on IMDb from around 14,000 votes and 6.8 out of 10 on TMDB from 223 votes, while critics give it 6.6 out of 10 from 109 reviews, placing the two groups closely together.
