Cannonball Run II

Cannonball Run II is a 1984 action comedy about an illegal cross-country car race across the United States. An Arab sheikh puts up a million-dollar prize for whoever reaches the finish first, drawing a field of eccentric drivers, including a returning crew of veterans from an earlier race and a large group of newcomers. Burt Reynolds plays J.J. McClure, who sets out on the road with his friend Victor, played by Dom DeLuise.

Hal Needham directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Albert S. Ruddy and Harvey Miller, with Ruddy producing. The film is the sixth of the eight features Needham directed, arriving after The Cannonball Run in 1981 and before Rad in 1986. Alongside Reynolds and DeLuise, the cast includes Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. as a pair of racers, Jamie Farr as the sheikh and Marilu Henner as Betty, among a credited cast of 57. Made in the United States and Hong Kong on a budget of about 20 million dollars, it took roughly 56 million dollars worldwide.
