Leibniz – Chronicle of a Lost Painting

Commissioned by Queen Charlotte, a young painter begins working on a portrait of the philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz. As the sessions progress, the artist and the thinker engage in a passionate conflict over whether a painting can capture a person's true essence. Their struggle for truth in art and image eventually evolves into a deeper confrontation involving love and death.

This historical drama was directed by Edgar Reitz, who also co-wrote the screenplay. It is the third film in the director's career, following Venice 70: Future Reloaded and Subject: Filmmaking. Produced in Germany by if... Productions, nordmedia, and ERF / Edgar Reitz Filmproduktion, the movie features a cast including Edgar Selge, Aenne Schwarz, Lars Eidinger, Barbara Sukowa, Michael Kranz, and Antonia Bill.
