The Resurrection of the Christ: Part Two

The Resurrection of the Christ: Part Two is the concluding half of a two-part follow-up to The Passion of the Christ. The story centres on the resurrection, the reunion of Christ's soul with his body on the third day after his death, and the victory over death that follows. Details of the plot have not been set out, and the film is the second instalment of the pair.

Mel Gibson directs, as he did the 2004 film that this pair continues and the first part released a year earlier in 2027. The screenplay is by Randall Wallace, Mel Gibson and Donal Gibson, and Gibson produces with Jim Caviezel and Bruce Davey. Jaakko Ohtonen plays Jesus, with Mariela Garriga as Mary Magdalene, Kasia Smutniak as Mary, Pier Luigi Pasino as Peter, Riccardo Scamarcio as Pontius Pilate and Eduardo Scarpetta as Paul. Thirty cast members are credited. The production is American, mounted by Lionsgate and Icon Productions, with a budget of 100 million dollars.

The film has not yet been released and is scheduled for 25 May 2028. It belongs to the drama genre and follows The Resurrection of the Christ: Part One, the seventh narrative feature Gibson has directed and the second in this pair. The budget places it among the larger productions associated with its backers.
