Set in 1991 shortly after the fall of the Iron Curtain, this comedy-drama follows Ruth, a music journalist from New York, as she travels to Poland with her father, Edek. While Ruth is determined to uncover her family's Jewish heritage and understand the traumas of the past, her father, a Holocaust survivor, prefers to avoid these memories. Edek uses humor and stubbornness to sabotage the trip, leading to a series of awkward situations as the two struggle to reconcile their differing views on their history. Through their journey, they uncover old secrets and work toward a deeper mutual understanding.

The film was directed by Julia von Heinz, who also co-wrote the screenplay and served as a producer. This is her second feature following And Tomorrow the Entire World. The cast features Lena Dunham as Ruth and Stephen Fry as Edek, with supporting roles played by Zbigniew Zamachowski, Iwona Bielska, Maria Mamona, and Wenanty Nosul.
