The Story of Us
Short description
Ben and Katie Jordan have been married for fifteen years and have two children. The affection between them has faded, and their different temperaments now cause friction: Ben is a writer with a loose, spontaneous approach to life, while Katie is methodical and precise in her work and at home. With the children away at summer camp, the couple decides to live apart for a while and use the time to work out whether their marriage can continue.
Rob Reiner directed the film, the tenth of the nineteen features he has directed in chronological order, following The American President and preceding Rumor Has It... He also produced alongside writers Jessie Nelson and Alan Zweibel, and appears in a supporting role. Bruce Willis and Michelle Pfeiffer lead the cast as the couple, with Julie Hagerty among the supporting players.
Released in October 1999, the film had a budget of 50 million US dollars and took about 59 million worldwide, a modest return. On IMDb it holds a rating of 6.1 out of 10 from 382 votes, while a film critics' rating stands at 4.8 out of 10 from 120 reviews, so audiences rated it somewhat more kindly than critics did.
