Home Fries

Home Fries is a 1998 American comedy-drama about two brothers, Dorian and Angus Montier, who harass their stepfather with a helicopter and cause him to die of a heart attack. Their mother, Beatrice Lever, had wanted the unfaithful man found and confronted, and the death leaves the brothers scrambling to cover their tracks. Dorian sets out to find the woman their stepfather was seeing, Sally Jackson, who works the drive-through window at a fast-food restaurant and is pregnant with the dead man's child. Dorian falls for her, while Angus leans toward a more ruthless solution to the problem she now represents, and their mother also wants Sally out of the picture.

The film was directed by Dean Parisot, the first of the six features listed for him, from a screenplay by Vince Gilligan. It stars Drew Barrymore as Sally, Catherine O'Hara as Beatrice, Luke Wilson as Dorian, Jake Busey as Angus and Shelley Duvall as Mrs. Jackson, with 26 credited cast members and 48 credited crew.

Produced by Warner Bros. Pictures with Gran Via Productions, Kasdan Pictures and Baltimore Pictures, the film had a budget of 35 million US dollars and took about 10 million worldwide, a substantial shortfall. On IMDb it holds 5.1 out of 10 from around 9,500 votes, and on TMDB 5.1 out of 10 from 109 votes, while the critics' rating stands at 4.8 out of 10 from 35 reviews, so audiences and critics landed in much the same place.
