Sholay

Set in the lawless region around the village of Ramgarh, Sholay follows the bandit Gabbar Singh, who terrorises the area through robbery and killing. When the police officer Thakur Baldev Singh finally captures him, Gabbar escapes and takes a brutal revenge on the officer's family. Left unable to act himself, Thakur hires two small-time outlaws, Jai and Veeru, to bring Gabbar back alive. The pair settle in the village and take on the task of protecting it from the bandit and his gang, with a reward promised for Gabbar's capture. The film was directed by Ramesh Sippy from a screenplay by Javed Akhtar and Salim Khan, and produced by G.P. Sippy. Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan play Veeru and Jai, with Sanjeev Kumar as Thakur and Amjad Khan as Gabbar Singh. Hema Malini and Jaya Bachchan also appear, among a credited cast of 24. The action film runs 208 minutes and was made on a budget of about 2 million USD. It became a major commercial success, taking roughly 70 million USD worldwide. On IMDb it holds 8.1 out of 10 from about 63,000 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 7.1 from around 331 votes, a smaller and notably lower sample.
