The Mountain

The Mountain follows Sam, a young girl battling cancer who seeks a spiritual connection with Mount Taranaki in New Zealand. Having grown up apart from her Māori heritage, she embarks on a challenging journey toward the peak to find healing. Along the way, she forms a bond with two other unconventional youths, Mallory and Bronco, as the trio navigates a difficult route and discovers the value of friendship.

This New Zealand production was directed by Rachel House, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Tom Furniss. The film features Elizabeth Atkinson in the lead role of Sam, supported by Terence Daniel as Bronco and Reuben Francis as Mallory. Other cast members include Fern Sutherland, Byron Coll, and Troy Kingi. The project involved several production companies, including Weta Digital, the New Zealand Film Commission, NZ on Air, and Madman Entertainment. Released on March 28, 2024, the film blends elements of adventure, comedy, drama, and family themes over a runtime of 89 minutes.
