Carlo, a thirty-year-old advertising professional, has been happy with Giulia for three years, but her pregnancy sends him into a private panic about the responsibilities ahead. Around him, friends and family are also unsettled: Giulia's mother Anna is confronting her age and a marriage that has lost its warmth, while several of Carlo's friends are drifting away from their own partners. At a wedding he meets Francesca, an eighteen-year-old student, and the prospect of one more carefree youthful romance becomes hard for him to refuse.
Gabriele Muccino directed and wrote the film, which Domenico Procacci produced for Medusa Film and Fandango. It was Muccino's first feature among the ten titles he has directed, ahead of Remember Me, My Love, The Pursuit of Happyness and the later films through Things We Don't Say. The large cast of thirty-eight is led by Stefano Accorsi as Carlo, Giovanna Mezzogiorno as Giulia, Stefania Sandrelli as Anna, Martina Stella as Francesca, Claudio Santamaria as Paolo and Giorgio Pasotti as Adriano. Released in February 2001 and running 115 minutes, it blends comedy, drama and romance, and took about 18 million dollars worldwide.
On IMDb the film holds 6.9 out of 10 from roughly 9,100 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.4 from 539 votes.
