The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is a 2013 action fantasy film set in present-day New York. Clary Fray, an ordinary teenager, witnesses a killing that no one else can see, and shortly afterwards her mother is taken by strange creatures. She learns that she belongs to a hidden line of half-angel warriors known as Shadowhunters, and that a parallel world of demons, vampires and other beings exists alongside her own. With the help of a Shadowhunter named Jace and her friend Simon, Clary searches for an ancient object tied to her mother's fate while uncovering the truth about her own past.

The film was directed by Harald Zwart and written by I. Marlene King and Jessica Postigo. It is the fifth of the seven features Zwart has directed, arriving between The Karate Kid and The 12th Man. Lily Collins plays Clary, with Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace, Robert Sheehan as Simon, Kevin Zegers and Jemima West as Alec and Isabelle Lightwood, and Lena Headey as Jocelyn Fray. It adapts the first novel in Cassandra Clare's series.

Produced on a budget of about 60 million dollars, the film took roughly 95 million dollars worldwide. On IMDb it holds 5.8 out of 10 from around 143,000 votes, and on TMDB 6.4 out of 10 from about 4,700 votes, while critics gave it 4 out of 10 across 126 reviews, placing it below both audience scores.
