E.1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea

This docufiction follows the life of Irish designer and architect Eileen Gray during the late 1920s and 1930s. Gray created E.1027, a modernist villa on the French Riviera, as a private sanctuary for herself and Jean Badovici. The situation evolves into a conflict of jealousy and control when the architect Le Corbusier becomes obsessed with the house. Without permission, he adds murals to the walls and shares images of them publicly. Despite Gray viewing these actions as vandalism and demanding their removal, Le Corbusier ignores her and builds his own structure, Le Cabanon, directly behind her home.

The film was directed and written by Beatrice Minger and produced in Switzerland by companies including SRG SSR and ARTE GEIE. The cast features Natalie Radmall-Quirke as Eileen Gray, alongside Charles Morillon as Le Corbusier and Axel Moustache as Jean Badovici, while archive footage of the real Eileen Gray is also included. This 90-minute documentary was released on October 24, 2024. It currently holds a rating of 6.8/10 on IMDb based on 206 votes.
