Two Prosecutors

Set in 1937 during the Great Terror in the Soviet Union, this historical thriller follows Alexander Kornev, a newly appointed local prosecutor. After receiving a plea for help from a prisoner, Kornev investigates claims of corruption and illegal activity within the NKVD secret police. A committed Bolshevik, he attempts to find the prisoner and seek justice, a pursuit that eventually leads him to the office of the Prosecutor General in Moscow.

Directed and written by Sergei Loznitsa, the film is the third in a sequence of works that includes A Night at the Opera and The Invasion, preceding Champ de Mars and Imperium. The cast is led by Aleksandr Kuznetsov as Kornev, appearing alongside Aleksandr Filippenko, Anatoliy Belyy, Andris Keišs, Vytautas Kaniušonis, and Valentin Novopolskij, with a total of 28 credited cast members.
