Return of the Seven

Return of the Seven follows Chris Adams, who is drawn back into action when the men of a Mexican village are seized and forced into labour. Among the captives is Chico, one of the surviving members of the group that once defended the village, and it is Chico's wife who persuades Chris to help. Chris gathers a new band of gunmen, including his old comrade Vin, and leads them toward the ranch of the man responsible for the abductions.

The film was directed by Burt Kennedy, arriving between Mail Order Bride (1964) and The War Wagon (1967) in a career that also includes Support Your Local Sheriff!, Hannie Caulder and The Train Robbers. Larry Cohen wrote the screenplay, Ted Richmond produced, and Yul Brynner returns as Chris, with Robert Fuller as Vin, Julián Mateos as Chico, Warren Oates as Colbee, Claude Akins as Frank and Elisa Montés as Chico's wife. A Spanish-American co-production, it was released in October 1966 and took about 13 million dollars worldwide.

Audience responses were moderate: on IMDb it holds 5.5 out of 10 from roughly 5,500 votes, while on TMDB it stands at 6.1 from a much smaller base of 316. A critics' rating of 4.1 out of 10 from eight reviews places it below even the muted audience scores, suggesting a generally unfavourable professional reception for this Western sequel.
