Duse

Set in Italy during the period between World War I and the rise of fascism, the film follows Eleonora Duse, an aging stage actress who decides to return to performing after years away. Now over sixty, Duse faces the challenge of adapting her artistic ideals to a changing and increasingly brutal political landscape. She views her return to the theater as a revolutionary act, persisting in her craft despite declining health and strained personal relationships with her daughter and the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio.

Directed by Pietro Marcello, this historical drama is the fourth film in his career, following Venice 70: Future Reloaded, 9x10 Ninety, and Martin Eden. The screenplay was written by Marcello alongside Letizia Russo and Guido Silei. The film stars Valeria Bruni Tedeschi in the title role, supported by a cast that includes Fanni Wrochna, Noémie Merlant, Fausto Russo Alesi, Edoardo Sorgente, and Vincenzo Nemolato.
