Strange Brew

Strange Brew follows Bob and Doug McKenzie, a pair of beer-loving brothers who get mixed up in a power struggle at the Elsinore Brewery. After the brewery's founder dies, his brother Claude seizes control and marries the widow, only to find that the founder's adult daughter, Pam, stands to inherit a majority share. Bob and Doug take her side, which puts them in the path of Brewmeister Smith, who is using the brewery for a scheme of his own.

The film comes from the Canadian sketch comedy series SCTV, with Rick Moranis and Dave Thomas playing the McKenzie brothers and also making their directing debut. It was their first film as directors; they went on to make The Experts and White Coats. The two also wrote the screenplay with Steve De Jarnatt, and Louis M. Silverstein produced. Max von Sydow plays Brewmeister Smith, with Paul Dooley as Claude, Lynne Griffin as Pam, and Angus MacInnes as Jean LaRose.

Released in 1983, Strange Brew was made for about 4 million dollars and returned roughly 2 million worldwide. On IMDb it holds a 6.6 out of 10 from around 20,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 6 out of 10 from about 230 votes.
