Short description
Tragedy strikes when Heathcliff falls in love with Catherine Earnshaw, a woman from a wealthy family in 18th-century England.

What's left behind the scenes

  • Filming for the movie took place from January to April 2025.
  • Margot Robbie filmed in the movie three months after giving birth.
  • In the design of the bedroom of Catherine, played by Margot Robbie, production designer Susie Davis used an enlarged image of the actress's skin. She 'played' with the photographs, emphasizing veins and experimenting with saturated colors and filters.
  • Catherine's swing at the estate was modeled after the swing in the 1767 painting by the impressionist painter and engraver Jean-Honoré Fragonard (1732-1806).
  • The entire estate was a set in a filming pavilion; however, the window glass and the roses in the garden were real, not props.
  • The owners lent the goldfish swimming in transparent urns to the filmmakers for just one day. After that, they were replaced by mechanical "stunt doubles."
  • The film's screenplay differs from the plot of Emily Brontë's 1847 novel (she is mentioned in the credits as a screenwriter). According to director and screenwriter Emerald Fennell, she reworked the script based on her own memories of her impressions of the novel, which she read as a teenager. She wanted to show the audience her own interpretation rather than a precise, detailed reproduction of the source novel.
  • The red latex dress worn by Margot Robbie's character was not actually made of latex. A modern shiny synthetic material was used for its tailoring, chosen to match the color of the estate's red floors.
  • The models for the hand sculptures (used as wall candelabras) were the hands of members of the film's creative team, specifically those from the props department.
  • A veritable war broke out between various studios over the rights to create the film. Netflix offered the most money (it is claimed the amount was $150 million). Ultimately, director and screenwriter Emerald Fennell and lead actress Margot Robbie chose Warner Bros. While they were only willing to pay $80 million, they promised a theatrical release.
  • The kitchen ceiling was 193 cm high, while Jacob Elordi, who played Heathcliff, stands at 195 cm; this meant he was intended to be unable to even stand fully upright in the estate he would one day own. As production designer Susie Davies put it, this symbolized that the estate would never truly belong to him.
