National Theatre Live: Dear Octopus

Set just before the start of World War II, this drama follows the Randolph family as they gather to celebrate Dora and Charles's golden wedding anniversary. Over the course of a festive weekend, the parents must confront the reality of who their children have become, while the children struggle with memories of their family's past. The gathering becomes a study of domestic life, as the relatives navigate a fragile balance between affection and resentment, as well as intimacy and alienation. Based on a play by Dodie Smith, the story explores the emotional complexities of returning home after reaching adulthood.
