Scooby-Doo and Shaggy travel to Arabia, where they take a job as royal food tasters for the Caliph. Their appetite lands them in trouble, and they end up fleeing the palace to save their lives. On the run, Shaggy hides among the harem women, and to get them out of danger he spins elaborate tales about the sailor Sinbad and a magical lamp. A genie voiced as Yogi Bear and a cheerful sailor named Sinbad join the pair on a magic carpet journey through mistaken identities and exotic places.
This animated television film from 1994 was directed by Jun Falkenstein and Joanna Romersa, who also produced it, from a screenplay by Gordon Kent. It was Falkenstein's first directing credit, followed later by holiday specials and features such as The Tigger Movie and several Monster High films. Don Messick voices Scooby-Doo and Boo-Boo Bear, Casey Kasem returns as Shaggy, Greg Burson plays Yogi Bear and the Royal Chef, and Jennifer Hale voices Aliyah-Din.
The film runs sixty-nine minutes and mixes adventure, music, mystery and fantasy for a family audience. On IMDb it holds a rating of 5.3 from around 2,400 votes, while on TMDB its rating is 7.3 from about 166 votes, indicating that the smaller group of viewers there responded more warmly than the broader IMDb audience.
