It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown follows the Peanuts gang through Halloween night. Charlie Brown is getting ready for a party, while Snoopy climbs into his flying ace persona to take on the Red Baron in his imagination. Linus, meanwhile, skips the festivities to keep watch in a pumpkin patch, convinced that a supernatural figure called the Great Pumpkin will rise and deliver presents to those who believe. His vigil becomes the emotional center of the story, testing his faith against the skepticism of Lucy and the indifference of his friends.

The 1966 television special was directed by Bill Melendez, who had previously made A Charlie Brown Christmas and would go on to direct seven more Peanuts specials in the years that followed, including A Boy Named Charlie Brown and Snoopy, Come Home. Charles M. Schulz, the creator of the comic strip, wrote the screenplay, and Melendez produced as well as providing the sounds for Snoopy. Peter Robbins voices Charlie Brown, with Christopher Shea as Linus, Sally Dryer as Lucy, Cathy Steinberg as Sally Brown and Gail DeFaria as Pigpen.

Running a little under half an hour, the special has become a seasonal fixture. On IMDb it holds an 8.1 rating from roughly 24,000 votes, while on TMDB it sits at 7.5 from around 470 votes, suggesting a broad and durable affection among viewers.
